We no longer think for ourselves.
We're dumber than the smart phone.

Fill the void, to be happy;
our bodies, the property of the corporations.
Long work weeks, no time for family,
industry is built on self adulation.

The Western ego thrives on self congratulation.
It monopolizes history for its self determination,
it wants to be fulfilled, it wants instant gratification,
it wants God to notice, it wants divine glorification.
I want fame, I want the spotlight, I want attention!
Even though I'm not royalty give me my mention!
Shower me with money, talk about me please,
look at what I'm wearing, I'm like a disease.

Western culture is perpetual banality,
embedded marketing strategy.
Creative energy's stifled by formality,
no originality;
our own credulity believes:
goodness, is the equivalent of popularity.

From pop medicine to pop psychiatry;
money justifies their collective impropriety.
Your body: The Property of Medical Science,
through our over reliance,
and when you pin your hopes to a panacea,
not even the truth-can-free-ya.

The Constitution Notwithstanding

The middle class is better off said Jim Flaherty.

Canadians are blushing, stop with all the flattery.

The Dumb Questions Are The Ones You Do Ask

You say Canada has the best government;
but you're afraid to ask where the money all went.

Is their human rights cant, to Putin,
more political, big mouth shootin'?

Shouldn't Canada's record on same sex,
make human rights advocates vex?
When the crack smoking, mayor of Toronto;
can snub gay pride and remain head honcho.


Did you think to ask what of women?
For half the population, very few are winnin'.

Who're the women making big decisions?
Who's over represented in the prisons?

Who's going to pay for crushing student debt?
How can a kid pay, if they can't work yet?
Supposing the public foots the bill,
should universities reap the benefits still?

What of pensions?
Should they get mentions?

How're the working poor expected to save;
while in bondage as corporate wage slaves?

Will you emancipate them Stephen,
or are you wasting our time trying to get even,
 with your 8 long years of Liberal open season?

Why do Canadian Senators get their, "all expense paid"?
On the taxpayer dime they "got it made in the shade".

Maybe Mike Duffy, could audition raps for Sean "Puffy"

Did your Inconvenient Truth, dismiss climate change?

Don't Believe Everything You Fear (Do Away With Federalism!)

All that a savvy political campaigner, really has to do;
is create a catchy or hateful slogan, that is sure to hook you.
George W. Bush said "No Child Left Behind",
and created more victims of inner city crime.

Obama had the sophisticated, "Yes We Can" campaign ad;                                                                     electing a black president, made right wing whites real mad.
Bill Clinton said "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow".
Senior Bush's "A Kinder Gentler Nation" didn't fit with the American motto.

NDP, David Lewis said "Corporate Welfare Bums"!
Harper's "Here For Canada" gave them back their huge sums.
Trudeau asked Canada to "Come Work With Me"
While the Tories used attack ads to elect Brian Mulroney.

The Western political strategist exploits anger, doubt and fear,
they keep the public divided; yet make them think they care.
Tax dollars and corporate money are used for illusory power,
they misuse the public mandate and cause democracy to sour.

No government should ever serve more than 4 years.
That's when they over ripen, like mushy Anjou pears.
Their skin sloughs right off, and their innards go all brown;
when governments expire, their integrity drops way down.

No government should ever be granted a clear mandate rule;
they start to feel entitled and treat the public like their mule.
Government should be watched by dedicated citizen groups.
Don't trust the media to do it, because media are government dupes.

In North America today, federalism is a sham!
Politicians act like rock stars, exuding pomp, glitz and glam.
Take them down a notch, vote to locally empower!
The feds made their beds, strip their pride this hour!

The Second Dumbing

Imagine someone gave you a car,
and said, go ahead, take a drive in it!
No matter how you tried, you couldn't get far.
Only to find, they installed, a governor limit.

Has your democracy been test driven;
with a tank full of inalienable rights?
Did you think, freedom a given?
What did they say the mileage was like?

American conservatives embraced Ayn Rand.
They shoved their free markets down our throats.
Her empty polemics, they claimed, to understand.
Intelligent opposition still got their goat.

Pull back the drapes, look out the window!

So soccer moms could gleam with pride.

"Fire burn and cauldron bubble" -
is there any question why democracy's in trouble?
The Witches of Congress cursed it on the double;
like finding the constitution by looking through Hubble.

They chose Mitt as the Republican nominee;
after he strapped his dog to the car.
They listened intent, as he gave his homily;
convincing the right he'd take America far.

These leaders ran our Democracy right out of gas;
meanwhile the fueling station's on top of capitalist hill.
They told the wealthy don't push, have a free pass.
Bear it! 4 more years! "Yes We Can"! Get there we will!
