Imagine someone gave you a car,
and said, go ahead, take a drive in it!
No matter how you tried, you couldn't get far.
Only to find, they installed, a governor limit.

Has your democracy been test driven;
with a tank full of inalienable rights?
Did you think, freedom a given?
What did they say the mileage was like?

American conservatives embraced Ayn Rand.
They shoved their free markets down our throats.
Her empty polemics, they claimed, to understand.
Intelligent opposition still got their goat.

Pull back the drapes, look out the window!
The Second Dumbing just arrived!
Sarah Palin cited Roe...
So soccer moms could gleam with pride.

"Fire burn and cauldron bubble" -
is there any question why democracy's in trouble?
The Witches of Congress cursed it on the double;
like finding the constitution by looking through Hubble.

They chose Mitt as the Republican nominee;
after he strapped his dog to the car.
They listened intent, as he gave his homily;
convincing the right he'd take America far.

These leaders ran our Democracy right out of gas;
meanwhile the fueling station's on top of capitalist hill.
They told the wealthy don't push, have a free pass.
Bear it! 4 more years! "Yes We Can"! Get there we will!
